True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season

Product Description

Returning for its fifth season, True Blood is HBO’s sexy, scary, wildly entertaining drama series from Oscar®- and Emmy®-winner Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) and based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. In addition to returning cast favorites – human/faerie waitress Sookie Stackhouse, her vampire suitors Bill Compton and Eric Northman, soul-searching pal Tara, shape-shifting boss Sam, rakish brother Jason, clairvoyant Lafayette and teen-vamp Jessica – Season 5 introduces a whole new wave of otherworldly characters. There’s Vampire Guardian Roman, president of the Vampire Authority, who wants co-existence between humans and vampires; vampire zealot Salome (yes, the Salome), intent on recreating the world in God’s vampyric image; Authority Chancellor Nora, who shares the same maker as Eric; werewolves J.D. and Martha, who want a reluctant Alcide to take his rightful place as packmaster; and many more. Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, True Blood Season 5 goes deep into the battle between the Vampire Authority and “vampire fundamentalists” – a political power play whose outcome could decide not only the fate of Sookie and her Bon Temps friends, but of all human existence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Season Five is Fantastic!, January 1, 2013
This review is from: True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
The Bon Temps gang returns for the fifth season of HBO's "True Blood". I am a colossal fan of the show, having seen every episode since the pilot. Like every show, "True Blood" has had a few ups and downs in terms of writing. Seasons one and two were the show at its best, in my opinion. Season three was a lot of fun, but suffered from cluttered storylines and tonal problems. But, season four -- although it still can't top season one or two -- was a solid return to form (and I can't understand the bashing it regularly receives on here from other fans).

So, how does season five compare? I found this year to be even better than the last; the most compelling reason for this is the fundamental shaking up of all things comfortable and familiar on the show. All of the close relationships have been compromised or changed or they've grown apart: Sookie/Bill/Eric, Sookie/Tara, Pam/Eric, Jason/Hoyt, Tara/Lafayette, etc. This was the year of the Break Up (friendships as well as... 5.0 out of 5 stars If you havent seen true blood don't start if you don't have time to finish!!, November 30, 2012
This review is from: True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
True Blood started as everyone saying you have to see this and me grudgingly taking Season 1 from a friend. I now own all the seasons, know each character by name with background story and am humbly awaiting the release of season five. Its addicting, dont' say I didn't warn you

5.0 out of 5 stars True Blood - Back From the Dead, September 17, 2012

ChaCha (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
After season 4, I thought this show was deader than dead. Truthfully, I started to watch season 5 like anticipating a root canal. I made a vow to myself that I only had to watch the first two episodes and if it were intolerable, I gave myself permission to yank the drill out of my mouth. Well color me happy with a big box of crayons - True Blood has redeemed itself as one of the most addicting and entertaining series ever. I feel totally vindicated that all those people who raked us book lovers over the coals for disliking Season 4 because they felt we wanted things to be just like the books were so wrong; we just hated stupid and boring plots, not that they didn't follow the books. I say Were Droppings to them!

Season 5 won me over because it was a return to well written, funny, full of adventure entertainment. There was more fairy fun. Tara has become interesting (can you believe it?) and Jason actually had loads to do this season without it feeling gratuitous to... Read more
